San Diego Summer Choral Festival
August 4–7, 2016
Dr. Patrick Walders, Founder & Artistic Director
The San Diego Summer Choral Festival is a four-day workshop that holds day and evening activities, including rehearsals, faculty recitals, vocal master classes, and topical sessions given by faculty, with performances in two of San Diego’s most rewarding acoustics: St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (Pacific Beach) and St. Paul’s Cathedral (Banker’s Hill). The festival is open to all levels of vocal ability and experience. Students (rising 10th graders through college), church musicians, amateurs, semi-professionals, and professionals are welcome.
The artistic vision of the summer choral festival is to perform repertoire in different time periods, languages, and styles; works from the classical canon to unknown gems to new compositions. A small group, Schola, will be formed for select advanced pieces, and will be auditioned based on sight-reading ability, vocal training, and experience, and on Day One of the festival.
