San Diego Pro Arte Voices Workshops

After School Choir

April 2 - June 4, 2018

The San Diego Pro Arte Voices leads a weekly after-school choir program at Barnard Asian Pacific Language Academy in Pacific Beach. Vocalists of the Pro Arte Voices who are also music teachers teach K-5 students basic vocal technique, music reading, rhythmic skills, solfege, and musical concepts (melody, rhythm, form/structure), all through learning classical songs, musical theatre, and Mandarin, and American folk tunes.

Choral Conducting Workshop

July 21-23, 2019

Over three days, participants will receive intensive choral conducting study, focusing on gesture, rehearsal techniques, warmups, vocal pedagogy, programming ideas, and choral literature for K-12, church, and community choirs. A choir made up of members of the San Diego Master Chorale and auditioned local choral musicians will be available every evening acting as the main vehicle for Conducting Fellows, both in rehearsal and at the culminating recital.

Choral Festival

July 25-27, 2019

The San Diego Summer Choral Festival is a four-day workshop that holds day and evening activities, including rehearsals, faculty recitals, vocal master classes, and topical sessions given by faculty, with performances in two of San Diego’s most rewarding acoustics: St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (Pacific Beach) and St. Paul’s Cathedral (Banker’s Hill). The festival is open to all levels of vocal ability and experience. Students (rising 10th graders through college), church musicians, amateurs, semi-professionals, and professionals are welcome.

Group Voice Lessons

Starts April 27, 2019

Voice lessons in a group format, with optional individual singing/coaching in a masterclass setting, and a Q&A segment, all following a sequential curriculum. Participants can sign up for one class or all classes. Following the sequential curriculum is NOT mandatory, but is recommended.

SDSCF YOUTH CHORAL ACADEMY

Summer of 2024

The San Diego Summer Choral Festival Youth Choral Academy is a three-day event for rising 6th through 8th graders, set in sunny San Diego. The Youth Choral Academy is the perfect summertime opportunity for middle school students to make music in a positive and fun, team environment. Participants will engage with distinguished faculty to learn repertoire from different time periods and in different languages, and work on rhythm with boomwhackers and other musical instruments.
